Arms companies: The 100 largest arms companies in the world

The industry of the world's 100 largest arms companies is in motion. In 2014, total sales fell slightly for the fourth time in a row - by 1.5 percent to $ 401 billion.

According to an analysis by the Swedish peace research institute Sipri, the total amount conceals considerable shifts. In 2014, sales of the largest Russian defense companies rose by an enormous 48 percent. Eleven Russian companies are now among the top 100. In 2013 there were only eight.

The US company Lockheed Martin is still by far the world's largest arms company. The gap to the unchanged number two, the likewise American aviation giant Boeing, should even widen after the takeover of the helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky. The Sipri experts expect more than 40 billion dollars in armaments sales at Lockheed Martin, compared to around 28.3 billion dollars (2014) at Boeing.

The British manufacturer BAE Systems ranks third worldwide. The European Airbus Group, which was formerly known as EADS, is in seventh place according to the Sipri statistics. However, the group has announced that it will part with armaments activities.

Russia is working its way forward

Up to eleventh place, the largest Russian arms company Almas-Antei has now worked its way up with arms sales equivalent to $ 8.8 billion. The group with almost 100,000 employees mainly produces anti-aircraft missiles, such as the BUK missiles or the powerful S-400 surface-to-air missiles, which were allegedly recently installed by Russia in Syria.
